GLOBAL NETWORKS

Through strategic collaborations and active participation in global partnerships and international networks, these associations provide Universiti Malaya (UM) with extensive opportunities in global education, research, and networking. They offer valuable platforms for cross-border collaboration, enabling UM students and staff to gain meaningful cross-cultural experiences and a deeper understanding of global issues, while benefiting from diverse international perspectives.

These networks also strengthen UM’s research and academic capacity by facilitating faculty engagement with leading scholars and experts worldwide, creating opportunities for joint projects, knowledge exchange, and initiatives that extend beyond the resources of any single institution.

Currently, the International Relations Centre (IRC) manages and oversees UM’s involvement in fourteen (14) global associations, leveraging the diverse strengths of member institutions to advance excellence in education, research, and innovation. UM’s top management also plays an active leadership role in several of these networks, including:

  • The Vice-Chancellor of UM serves as a member of the ASEAN University Network (AUN) Board of Trustees
  • The Vice-Chancellor is also a member of the Board of Governors of the Asian Universities Alliance (AUA)
  • The Vice-Chancellor sits on the Council of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU)
  • The Vice-Chancellor is a Steering Committee member of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU)
  • Professor Dr. Yvonne Lim Ai Lian, Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International), is an active member of the Senior International Leaders Group and Co-Chair of the Asia Pacific Women in Leadership (APWiL) initiative under APRU

UM remains committed to its active participation in these global platforms and continues to develop impactful programmes that strengthen its position as a regional leader in education and research.
